Having signed the Human League label Virgin Records belatedly realised that their early electronica didn't sell very well and put pressure on the band to put out something more commercial. The band insisted on a pseudonym and the resulting 45 was issued under the name The Men, allowing Phil Oakey to go full Donna Summer. Sadly despite the superb cover and a fantastic last days of disco sound the record tanked, and Virgin left the band alone.
